Francis Howgill (1618–1668) was a valiant minister of the gospel in the early Society of Friends in England who suffered great persecution and eventually died in prison for “the Word of God and for the testimony of Jesus.” This selection of his works contains an autobiographical account of his spiritual experiences in early life, a narration of his trial when indicted for refusing to swear and not attending the national church, and an extraordinary letter sent to his young daughter from prison.
